Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure to reduce or increase the size of your labia. The surgery is done to improve the appearance of your labia, to reduce physical discomfort or as part of gender-affirming surgery. Your labia are the folds of skin around your vagina opening. You have two folds of skin.

What happens during a labiaplasty?

During the trim technique, the plastic surgeon removes excess skin around the outer edge of the labia. During the wedge technique, a v-shaped "wedge" is cut out of the labia at the widest point then the edges are stitched together.

Is a labiaplasty painful?

The labiaplasty surgery will be performed with anesthesia, and you will feel little to no discomfort, but some mild post-op pain will most likely occur. It is surgery after all, and operating on a sensitive area like the labia will cause some discomfort.

What is the purpose of a labiaplasty?

A labiaplasty is surgery to reduce the size of the labia minora – the flaps of skin either side of the vaginal opening. It should not be done on girls younger than 18 because the labia continues to develop beyond puberty into early adulthood.

How long does a labiaplasty procedure take?
